Why Fragrance Oils: Part 1

So many people want to know ideally what are fragrance oils. I’ll make it simple. Fragrance oils, also known assented oils, are a combination of different oils used to make up a particular scent. Fragance oils are man made. That subject in high school that many had a love-hate relationship with actually came into use. Chemist in a lab somewhere have derived some type of scientific method on how to recreate scents using chemicals. This is important because many people love the smells so much they want to put it on their body as perfume. For the record, I am no perfumer, I am no expert in making fragrance oils, I’m just a person who has a passion for sweet smelling aromatic environments and doing research so I’ll give you my tips on using fragrance oils.

Most soaps, shampoo, perfume, cologne, lotions, hand sanitizers, detergents, wipes, some lip balms, and many other products use fragrance oils to get their smell. It’s no secret. You put soap and body wash on your body, you use detergent to clean your clothes so it’s safe to say fragrance oils “can” be used on the skin- but let me be clear. In everything, moderation is key. Who ever makes these products know how much to use. Moderation is key and unless specified, it’s not “recommended” to apply directly to the skin.

Fragrance oils are very potent and the smell can last very long. Once again, they are chemically made so they are designed to have that benefit. This makes them perfect for aromatherapy, specifically aromatic diffusers because you want the smells to last as long as possible.

Fragrance oils do not have major effects on the body, Disclaimer; too much of anything is never good. When using oils in diffusers, always measure using drops. Two or three drops can be more than you think depending on the size of the room. Essential oils are derived mainly from plants and sometimes fruits or nuts depending on the oil and have actual benefits to the physical body. There will be a more detailed blog on this coming soon. Example, eucalyptus oil is good for skin care, respiratory system, decongestion, and many other benefits to the body. Adding this oil in a diffuser is awesome but once the diffuser stops running, the aroma will only last maybe an hour or two. Eucalyptus fragrance oils will not give you these benefits but can last 4 to 8 or even 12 hours..

To keep this blog short, we’ll list more benefits of fragrance oils as well as essential oils in the next blogs to come. Part 2 will be my story. Stay tuned !!
